Mr. Smith started practicing law as an Assistant Public Defender as an Assistant to the elected Public Defender for Dade County, the Honorable Bennet H. Brummer. He spent six years in that office and in that time represented literally thousands of defendants and actually tried in front of juries cases from Driving Under the Influence to first degree murder charges. Mr. Smith has been in private practice as a criminal defense attorney and has devoted his practice exclusively to criminal defense since leaving the Public Defender's Office.
